This Feels a Bit Vulnerable to Write

Why I decided it was time to move a waitlist system

This feels a bit vulnerable to share because it’s peeking behind the curtain of my business, but…I have a coach too.

A few months ago I started working with a business coach. She’s made an amazing difference in what I’ve been able to accomplish.

Sometimes it’s because she see things more clearly since I am so far in the weeds. Sometimes it’s the accountability. And sometimes she helps with my mindset. It’s hard working on things completely on my own and sometimes I can spiral into all the “not enough” thoughts.

What’s been funny to realize is even though my coach is a business coach, and I’m a book coach, I find the same issues crop up with my own clients.

Yes, I evaluate their pages, provide editorial feedback, and share industry guidance. But I also provide needed perspective and accountability. And one thing I provide that’s often overlooked yet I’ve come to see as invaluable: the mindset support. We are all so susceptible to being beat down by criticism. And if you’re writing on your own, that imposter syndrome creeps in real fast.

So many writers I work with are writing really engaging stories yet they don’t realize it.

And because I commit to always being candid with my clients, they know I will tell them when the story still needs work too.

The thing is even though I’d had some success growing my business, I knew I was missing things, and would get to where I wanted much sooner with the help of a coach.

And I hear similar sentiments from my book coaching clients. Book coaching has helped them fast-track their writing process. It’s helping them reach their goals of finishing their manuscripts, and making them more engaging and propulsive.

So, why am I sharing all this now?

I’m moving to a system where I open my coaching calendar just 3-4 times a year and then I’ll have a waitlist in between.

That way I can focus my attention on clients and client work a majority of the time. My goal right now is to get my calendar filled through the end of 2026 in the next couple weeks. (And I’m nearly there!) After that, I’ll open my calendar again in September to book January through March 2027.
